PAUL HUET , a Parisian, Huet started painting at an early age. He began his studies with Pierre-Narcisse Guerin and continued on with
Antoine-Jean Gros. There he met and befriended Delacroix, with whom he had an illustrative correspondence. Huet was also a friend of
Richard Parkes Bonington, and an admirer of the style of the English landscapist. Huet studied in Switzerland, traveled to England and Italy
and created romantic images of the countryside. This type of painting continued throughout his career, which also included being and
engraver, a watercolorist and the teacher of the Duchess of Orleans. Huet’s paintings were shown first in the 1827 Salon, where he
eventually won two first class medals in 1848 and 1855. Huet’s individualistic style did not coincide with a particular school, but he
influenced the adherents of the Barbizon painters, especially Diaz and Francois.
